Intro:

– Lucas who heads this establishment was introduced to me via one of my massage therapist associate, Patrick Leong. He was trained by Jonathan Lee, a calibre massage therapy trainer who specializes in aroma therapy.

– The unit that he is operating in was converted from an office unit. It has three rooms (with one of them which can fit a couple). The interior design is minimalistic but practical and serves the purpose. It projects a cozy ambiance but I feel it can be done up even more.

– Being an aroma therapy session by Jonathan’s affiliation, I was expecting the oil blends to be carefully selected. I was not disappointed. There were 6 different blends of oil that can be chosen by the client. And you can be sure this is not the type where lavender equals relaxation, ginger equals detox, peppermint equals muscle work etc. It is a blend of different essential oils meticulously chosen to achieve what it is aimed at. These are the categories: sleep improvement, emotional balancing, mood improvement, energy improvement, muscle relaxation, detox. (What are the oils included in each blend, go and visit the outlet to find out for yourself 🙂

Sequence:

– The session started with a foot wipe (cold via a sanitised wet wipes) and ended with another foot wipe (this time round, hot via a towel). Very unique choice.

– On both prone and supine, the structure is relatively simple. Prone started with the leg then to the back / shoulder. The glutes are not part of the sequence.

– On supine, it is the leg, hand, stomach then end with the chest. No seated sequence.

Technique:

– Without oil, after the draping, he used gentle brushing technique followed by a simple sequence of palm compression.

– With oil, it is mainly effleurage, alternate palm slide / pull and palm compression / friction. All this are done with a very slow and steady phasing. This section definitely feels relaxing and you being pampered by touches. Though Lucas is relatively new in the industry, you can feel his hands are similar to a seasoned hand. Great potential there.

Additional notes:
– The session has a relatively simple flow, with no fancy techniques but it is still one of the best aroma therapy sessions I have been to.
– After the session, you can choose from 3 different type of tea blends for different purpose, another nice touch to the session. The categories are: rejuvenation, calming and detox.
– Patrick Leong also does sports massage in this establishment on a freelance basis.

Pros:
– The great phasing of the massage will put you very at ease. The firm strength and the strokes will make you feel that you are in an experienced hand.
– I am in awe with the oil blends. This is how it should be done by any therapist claiming or wanting to do aroma therapy.

Cons:
– The chaining from one part to another could be slightly smoother.
– This is more of my personal liking, I was hoping that I will be smelling something out of the ordinary when I first step into the outlet. Lucas used lemongrass as the first scent, my first impression. It is not a bad thing but just that lemongrass and camphor based essential oils are overly used by many establishment. Perhaps, can consider seasonal smell; this can be unique especially for returning client.
