1. Please do share about your background in a nutshell.
By day, I work as a full-time programmer specializing in manufacturing process control, where my world is defined by logic, optimization, and precision systems. Outside of the office, I’m an avid gym enthusiast, dedicating my off-work hours to strength training and pushing my physical limits.
Because of the physical demands of my training, I frequently visited massage centers to seek relief from muscle tension and support my recovery. Over time, my curiosity grew far beyond just receiving treatments—I became deeply fascinated by the mechanics of the human body, muscle recovery, and how targeted therapy can dramatically improve physical performance and well-being.
2. Do you have a preferred massage modality? Any reason for that?
While I am trained in sports massage, Tuina, and Swedish massage, I don’t stick to just one single modality. My preferred approach is actually a customized, integrative blend of all three, tailored specifically to each client’s unique body condition.
Everybody presents differently—some clients need the targeted precision of sports massage to release stubborn muscle knots and structural tension from heavy workouts, others benefit from the deep-tissue acupressure and energy-balancing aspects of Tuina, while some require the flowing, circulatory relief of Swedish massage to calm the nervous system. By combining these techniques dynamically rather than following a rigid, one-size-fits-all formula, I can address both acute physical restrictions and overall well-being, ensuring each session gives the body exactly what it needs to recover and thrive.
3. What is the weirdest request you ever get from a client before, during or after a session?
One of the more unexpected moments I’ve encountered happened when a client asked for an extra service, specifically requesting a sexual service during a session.
As a practitioner whose work is entirely rooted in clinical recovery, sports performance, and therapeutic relief (using techniques like sports massage, Tuina, and Swedish massage), I immediately recognized that this crossed the line of my professional scope. I handled the situation calmly and firmly, politely refusing the request while clearly communicating that my practice is strictly dedicated to therapeutic care and physical recovery.
It was definitely an awkward situation, but it served as a strong reminder of why maintaining clear, unwavering boundaries is so essential. It ensures a safe, professional, and respectful environment for both the therapist and clients who are genuinely seeking help with their physical well-being.
4. Let’s turn it the other way around, instead of client always requesting this and that from you, what would you request of your client when comes to massage? Or what is your one wish on customer if you are granted one?
If I were granted one single wish from every client, it would be complete transparency, open communication, and absolute trust in the therapeutic process.
Drawing a bit from my programmer and gym-lover background, I view a massage session almost like a collaborative debugging process. My ideal scenario involves clients who:
· Provide accurate “data”: Don’t hold back on feedback—let me know immediately if the pressure is too light, too intense, or hitting the exact spot.
· Trust the hybrid approach: Trust that when I dynamically blend sports massage, Tuina, and Swedish techniques, it is precisely tailored to what their body needs at that moment.
· Respect the professional space: Approach the session with a shared focus on genuine recovery, physical health, and mutual respect for boundaries.
When a client communicates openly and trusts the process, it transforms the session from a standard appointment into a truly effective recovery partnership where we can achieve the best possible results together.
So, my wish is simple: Relax, unplug, and let the massage do its magic! 💆♂️✨
5. What is your advice or word of wisdom to aspiring massage therapist?
My core piece of advice to aspiring massage therapists is to treat bodywork as a dynamic blend of science, intuition, and uncompromising professionalism.
Drawing from my background across programming, fitness, and therapy, here is what I believe makes a truly great therapist:
· Treat the body like a complex system, not a script: Don’t box yourself into a single modality. Master multiple techniques—whether it’s sports massage, Tuina, or Swedish—and learn to combine them fluidly based on what the client’s body is actually telling you. Every session is a unique “debugging” process.
· Cultivate deep empathy through personal experience: Whether through your own physical training, sports, or just paying close attention to human biomechanics, truly understand what physical stress feels like. When you genuinely relate to the tension your clients carry, your intuition in finding and releasing it improves exponentially.
At the end of the day, massage therapy isn’t just about making people feel good temporarily—it’s about partnering with them to restore movement, health, and balance. Stay curious, protect your standards, and never stop learning.
6. Any other things you would like to share or add?
To wrap things up, I often get asked how I manage balancing two completely different worlds—writing code for manufacturing process control by day and working with muscles on the side.
To me, they aren’t as different as they might seem. Both fields are ultimately about systems, optimization, and problem-solving. Whether I’m debugging an automated process line or decoding a client’s chronic lower back tension, the core mindset is the same: analyze the inputs, understand the mechanics, and find the most efficient way to restore smooth operation.
If there’s one final takeaway I’d love to share, it’s that your career and passions don’t have to fit into a single box. You can be analytical and technical, yet deeply physical and empathetic all at the same time. Embracing both sides has not only kept me balanced, but it has made me a better problem-solver in tech and a more intuitive, grounded therapist on the massage table.
Thank you for the opportunity to share a bit of my journey!
